I recently got a adobe update and one of its features had something to do with facebook. Is this a known update and should I download it? I didn't click any of the fake adobe ads, this update was on my computer when i logged on just like the usual adobe updates

[random display web app items from category, forgot password for online payments and bug corrections]

 

We are announcing a new Business Catalyst release, scheduled to go live next week.

This release includes several fixes that were impacting partners and customers using our eCommerce module, a new module setting allowing partners to display individual random items from a category, some improvements to the new File Manager, Forgot password support for offline payments and a few other bug fixes.

Features and enhancements

Random display items per category

One frequent request we had from partners, was the ability to display random web app items from a specific category. With the next release we're going to include this setting not only for web apps, but for all items that supported random display: web app items, news, blogs, events, FAQs, Forums, Media Downloads. To display a random item from a category, a user should use the cr attribute in the module. See below some samples for each of the updates modules:

  • webapps - { module_webapps,5579,cr,41117 }
  • webappscustomer - { module_webappscustomer,5579,cr,41117 }
  • news - { module_announcement,cr,41117 } or { module_announcement,cr,41117,true,ajax,_top }
  • blog - { module_blog,cr,41117 }
  • events - { module_booking,cr,41117 }
  • faq - { module_faq,cr,41117 } or { module_faq,cr,41117,true,ajax,_top }
  • forum - { module_forum,cr,41117 }
  • media downloads - { module_literature,cr,41117 }

 

The new setting is also available through the module manager or our Dreamweaver integration

Send web form to additional email addresses

With this release, we are enabling webBasics site owners to send the web form notification to multiple email addresses. To enable  that, we've added a new web form setting, named "Notification E-mail", that allows users to enter the email addresses where the web form notification should be sent:

 

 

Note: This functionality is available for all plans. When a workflow is applied on the form, this setting will list the email addresses included in the first step of the attached workflow.

"Forgot password workflow" for offline payments

Due to PCI-DSS security requirements, we have implemented a compliant workflow for the Offline Payment (OP) password.

  • Every user who has access to orders made through the offline payment gateway, will be required to set-up a security question and answer that the user will later use for the "Forgot Password" workflow.
  • In addition to this, we have published a compliant procedure to reset the Offline Payment password, in case a user forgets the security question and answer. It will be publicly available in our Knowledge Base.

Other changes

  • New File Manager: we've added keyboard shortcuts for some of the most common actions (see tooltips)
  • New File Manager: added support for multiple file upload;  (not supported on Internet Explorer 8/9 and tablets)
  • Report on opt-in status: we've updated  custom reports to allow customers also export the customer opt-n status
  • Updated events subscribers list to also display the subscriber email address

Deprecated functionality

  • With this release we are going to remove the reset password functionality from Partner Portal because it raises security implications as it allowed partners to view a user password; to reset an admin user password, partners can login into the site admin console and use the send password recovery email link from the Admin Users interface.
  • With August release, the Module Manager interface will remove the option to "Use Image for Button [x]" available for some modules (web form submit button, product search form button and more). The current browser support is good enough for enabling more effective ways to style buttons with CSS instead. This also helps with preparing to replace the current Module Manager with the better version available in File Manager.

  • Issue 3286799 - Fixed an issue in Custom Reports causing the report builder to crash when trying to filter by case status
  • Issue 3284135 - Fixed an issue preventing the image for removing products in the edit order screen from being rendered

Business Catalyst new admin interface updates

  • Updated several controls display rule to depend on user permission instead of user type (partner or business owner); this issue prevented Partners from accessing the new File Manager when logged in on sites that did not belong to their partner portal.
  • Fixed an issue causing link manager to not load if started from Rad editor link manager opened in pop-up windows
  • Fixed a problem causing the code editor to crash when pasting more than 140 characters

What's next

  • Import customers/web apps performance: following the release, we're going to release a update that aims to improve performance of our import engine; this aims to reduce import time and avoid timeouts during import;
  • Page metadata changes: we plan to update the way page metadata is handled  (for more details, see planned changes page)
  • New admin interface: updated the save and related action buttons behavior to be consistent throughout the entire admin (mockups)
  • Product Inventory Control per Attributes: we are planning to update the current e-commerce module to enable store owners to manage inventory based on product attributes; this feature is expected to be included in the September release.
  • New analytics infrastructure - beta: we will release a beta version of a new analytics infrastructure. This aims to solve performance issues when viewing analytics data, and some minor tweaks in visit calculations. A separate post on the paid partner forum with more information on how to access this beta version will be published next week.

We are announcing a new Business Catalyst release, scheduled to go live on Tuesday, February 28th.

The  R173  release comes with an updated DNS infrastructure (hardware and software) for better performance and reliability, updated web form interface for improved usability and several bug fixes.

Updated DNS Infrastructure

With this release we are going to replace the existing DNS infrastructure with a completely new solution (hardware and software) that aims to fix many of the DNS problems you've found while using Business Catalyst, greatly increase performance when resolving domains and support higher loads for new site creation.

For a smoother migration path, the new solution will be switched on a day after the release, on March 1st.

 

Updated Web Forms

We have updated the Edit Web Form user interface to simplify the discovery and usability for web form settings. Starting with R174, we've added a more visible Edit Properties button and updated the Web Form Properties dialog:

 

 

Related to web forms, the Reports > Web Form Usage menu entry in Admin Console will be shown only if the user has View Reports permission and at least a form is created on the site.

Issues fixed  by R173 release

  • Issue 3106414 - Fixed a bug preventing users to update Credit Card details for a recurrent payment created with SagePay payment gateway
  • Issue 3107053 - The Secure Zone Report Summary window does not log the login event
  • Issue 3109864 - Updated the message displayed when accessing Admin -> Manage Domains user interface for a trial site
  • Issue 3110882 - Fixed a bug causing passwords to be incorrectly updated with '******' when  site customer are updating their details using the Update Customer form
  • Issue 2930622 - Fixed a bug generating a JavaScript error when opening web form builder
  • Issue 2930642 - Fixed a bug causing special characters in web forms drop down lists to break the new web form builder
  • system_visitorDeviceClass  and visitor.device will  return the  detected device even if multiscreen templates are disabled

Known issues

  • Site Settings -> Site Map menu entry in Admin Console is displayed to all users having Edit pages permission and cannot be hidden. For the next few months, users who don't need Sitemap should ignore this menu entry.

Business Catalyst V3 beta updates

  • Added Copy Campaign button in the Email Campaign wizard on Stats and Preview and Send screens.
  • Added the Export report button in  Secure zone usage report screen

  • Fixed a bug on Chrome causing the instant search results to be displayed over the search box in CRM>Search user interface
  • Fixed a bug causing Preview page to open the Admin V3 user interface instead of the site page
  • Fixed a bug preventing users from accessing Module Manager in Admin V3
  • Fixed a bug on Internet Explorer causing a redirect to an empty frame instead of a redirect to Web Form Detail page after closing any popup from Site manager -> Web Forms interface
  • Update Edit Page screen to move Page Name field in the top and have the URL and Page Title fields auto-completed based on Page Name value

Heads-up: upcoming changes in the next release

We'd like to give you a heads-up with upcoming changes in the following release, without setting anything in stone though.

User Interface V3 will become default for new users

Starting with our next release (March 2012), all new users will have access by default to the Business Catalyst V3 user interface, but will be able to switch to the current user interface. The change will affect all user types (Partners and Customers) and all sites (existing and new).

New names and module tags for Announcements, Literature and Bookings

To improve consistency across the new Admin, the Announcements, Literature and Bookings modules, their corresponding tags and user interfaces will be renamed. Existing  tags and modules will continue to work as today, but users will no longer be able to insert them through module manager going forward. For each modules, the following name changes will occur:

  • Announcements will become  News and the following tags and modules will be replaced:
    • {module_announcement} will become {module_news}
    • {tag_announcementurl_value} will be replaced by {tag_newsurl_value}
    • {tag_announcementid} will be replaced by {tag_newsid}
    • {tag_eventfromdate} will become {tag_newsfromdate}
    • {tag_eventtodate} will become {tag_newstodate}
  • Bookings will become Events and the following tags and modules will be replaced:
    • {module_booking} will become {module_events}
    • {tag_bookingday} will become {tag_eventday}
    • {tag_bookingmonth} will become {tag_eventmonth}
    • {tag_bookingyear} will become {tag_eventyear}
  • Literature will become Media Downloads and the following module will be replaced:
    • {module_literature} will become {module_mediadownloads}

 

 

Updated user management interfaces


To simplify the user  and email accounts management workflows, we're going to update their corresponding user interfaces in the next releases. Going forward, we will separate the admin user accounts  from email accounts management and start using an invitation workflow for user and email accounts creation.

 

 

Besides the change of workflow itself, this update completely changes the way we are thinking about the platform and represents the first step into the Business Catalyst future. The user and email accounts user interfaces rely on REST APIs and backbone.js to completely separate the UI from the application login and provide more development flexibility and increased performance. Going forward, every interface we'll touch will be built on this infrastructure and will allow us to publish APIs which partners can use to extend or tweak the platform.

Note: by separating email and admin accounts user interfaces, you will no longer be able to create users that don't have access to admin and email.  Existing user accounts that don’t have email and admin access will continue to live on the system, but they will not be visible or editable in the new interfaces. We recommend you to use the current user interface to transition these accounts into  either email or admin accounts.

 

 

SEO options will be enabled out-of-the-box


Site Settings -> SEO menu entry in Admin Console will be removed. The options available now are:

  • SEO friendly URLs for eCommerce, Announcements, Web Apps -- these will be enabled for all sites by default and cannot be turned off
  • Enable partial URL matching for SEO friendly URLs -- this option will be deprecated. Existing sites will keep the current setting but able to switch it off using a special interface
  • Enable sitemap.xml for search engines -- this will remain as is for existing sites, and always  enabled for new sites

 

Note that trial sites will not be indexed by search engines. Should you want to disable search engine indexing after upgrade, please use a custom robots.txt file or upload an empty sitemap.xml.

If you'd like to use a custom sitemap.xml file, simply upload it to your site. If this file exists, it will be served instead of the BC-generated sitemap.xml.

Related to SEO, Enhanced 301 Redirects is being delayed for a few months.

 

 

Dropping support for Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 4 or below


Starting March 20th, we will discontinue support for Internet Explorer 7 or lower and Firefox 4 or below. In order to continue using Business Catalyst Admin user interface without  problems, you and your clients need to upgrade to a more recent browser:

Why is our website down and we're not receiving notices?

We received an email on Wednesday indicating some sites hosted on the US datacenter were intermittently unavailable.  Sure enough, our web was down.  Then back up, then down.  And it's down today.  Yet we've received no updates since Wednesday.  We are subscribed for the email updates, so they must not be posted very often?  But our web is down!


Keep Getting Logged Out

Does anyone know why I am continually logged out of the system when trying to work. I've tried using different browsers but am logged out every2 minutes or so & have to sign back in. Specifically, it logs me out when i switch windows to work with Dreamweaver.

New File Manager (Alpha, partners only)

We're proud to introduce the first public release of our new File Manager. Designed with productivity and ease of use in mind, the File Manager is an entirely new concept. When complete, it will be a full replacement for the current Pages, Templates, Module Templates, System Pages and old File Manager interfaces. The new File Manager is based on our rich client side, API based UI framework - we know you'll be impressed by how it performs

In this Alpha release, the following features are available:

  • Browsing files (including /_System folder, pages and templates)
  • Editing multiple files
  • Code editor with syntax highlighting, and code completion (including BC modules and tags)
  • Saving as draft and publishing Pages and Templates
  • Business Catalyst Toolbox, including module, tag and code snippets insertion

 

 

 

Some of the known issues which will be addressed in upcoming releases include:

  • IE8 browser compatibility
  • Folders containing special characters such as # and & cannot be accessed from tree list
  • File editor upper bar does not properly handle page info display/navigation on multiple rows

The File Manager is available only to Partners for now. Before introducing it to your business owner clients, we need to address permissions, design view editing and more.

We are looking forward to your feedback. Please let us about any issues you encounter, or your suggestions for improvements.

  • SEO friendly URLs for eCommerce, Announcements, Web Apps -- these will be enabled for all sites
  • Enable partial URL matching for SEO friendly URLs -- this will remain as is for all sites, and will no longer be possible to enable it for new sites, which will have it turned off
  • Enable sitemap.xml for search engines -- this will remain as is for existing sites, and always enabled for new sites

Note that trial sites will not be indexed by search engines. Should you want to disable search engine indexing after upgrade, please use a custom robots.txt file or upload an empty sitemap.xml.

If you'd like to use a custom sitemap.xml file, simply upload it to your site. If this file exists, it will be served instead of the BC-generated sitemap.xml.

Should you still need to access the SEO settings, they will still be available for a short period at yoursite.com/AdminConsole/#!/Utilities/SEO.aspx

 

Updated user and email accounts user interfaces

To simplify the user and email accounts management workflows and increase Admin interface performance, we're updating their corresponding user interfaces beginning March 20th.

While email and user accounts will continue to share data to facilitate email and admin access for the same email address, the management of emails and user accounts will be separated. In addition, for better security, the user and email accounts will be created using an invitation workflow, which means that the user creating the account will not be able to set a password for the account they are creating.

 

 

The old user interface will preserve its functionality which allows admins to manage users and email accounts.

In addition, by separating the email and user account management, we are dropping the option of having a user that doesn't have admin and email access. While these accounts will continue to live on the system, they will have no interface to manage them. To manage these, you will need use the old user interface to enable email or admin access for each of these user accounts.

Note: The new interfaces for user and email accounts management will be made localization-ready using the Adobe Content Translation Tool starting with the next release. For non-English customers we recommend the use of the old user interface.

 

Other updates

  • Deleted sites will be permanently removed from the system 30 days after the site has been deleted via the Partner Portal or Site Admin Console.

Business Catalyst V3 fixes

  • Updated the visual behavior of pop-up dialogs to prevent the unfriendly resize visual effect after the screen loads
  • Fixed a problem causing the web form properties dialog to be repositioned right after it loads instead of keeping its initial position
  • Updated several report screens to enable horizontal scrolling when the content is wider than the screen (ex: customer reports)
  • Fixed a bug causing the file upload bar to display under the upload manager screen

 

What's next

New user interface V3 default for new users - pushed to April release

We've pushed the change of the default user interface for new users into the April release, so that we are able to better integrate some of the new features we're working on, such as the new File Manager and User and Email account management interfaces.

Updated domain management

Continuing the journey started with User and Email account management, we're going to update the domain management user interfaces to be more intuitive and faster to use without losing the functionality available today.

We are announcing a new Business Catalyst release, scheduled to go live on Wednesday, April 18th. Following the challenges we faced with R174, we've taken a much closer look at our quality processes and we're doubling down on testing to reduce any potential bugs this release - this leads to less features, but we know after consulting many partners that quality and stability are what's most important.

This release introduces a series of updates that are going to be gradually rolled out in April, whose goal is to take the Business Catalyst infrastructure and platform to the next level in terms of performance and reliability. Additionally, we are continuously improving our new admin interface to bring it closer to a full scale release. Read through the following sections to get detailed information about this release:

Infrastructure updates

  • CDN– the Content Delivery Network improves initial page load for AdminConsole, by serving files from very fast servers that are close to the computer loading the Admin Console. The CDN support has been turned on April 7 for sites delivered from our European data center and on April 9 for sites delivered from our APAC and North America data centers.

Features and enhancements

New  dashboard for webBasics and webBasics+ plans

With this release, we are going to replace the business dashboard for webBasics and webBasics+ sites with a new simplified version that gets rid of all the unused graphs and information that cluttered the interface, while being built on the new API based UI framework. To streamline the site publishing workflow, the new dashboard exposes features likes  site upgrade, invite new users and add domains.

The redesigned dashboard will be available only from the new Business Catalyst admin user interface (V3).

System folders filtered on FTP according to site plan

Prior to this release, BC system folders such as /Layouts had the same contents on all plans, even though Shop layouts weren't used on webMarketing plan for example. In order to reduce unnecessary traffic and remove noise,  system folders are now accessible over FTP only if the feature is available in current site plan.

Send Secure Zone Login Details email switch

In this release, we've added a new parameter called SWE that decides whether or not the Secure Zone Login Details email will be sent when the form is submitted. By default, this new parameter is not included in the query string and its set to "True" (email will be sent). Partners that want to stop this email from being sent should add "&SWE=False" in the query string when creating a secure zone registration form.  

The already existing parameter named "SAR", that decides whether the WebForm Submission Confirmation AND Secure Zone Login Details emails are sent remains unchanged. For the Secure Zone Login Details email specifically, if any of these parameters is set to "False", the email will not be sent.

Issues fixed in the April release

  • Web forms: submitted form confirmation page is now available for webBasics and webBasics+ plans in System Pages
  • Web forms: web form builder username and password fields are now hidden for webBasics and webBasics+
  • System Pages - "Page content empty" and "No start pages" custom error pages have been removed. Existing customization, if any, will continue to work. These pages are never shown for production sites, as these have proper start pages set.
  • Updated My Details screen to add support for Adobe ID accounts management
  • Issue 3150655 - Fixed an issue casing newsletter credits to not be updated for additional newsletter overage packages;
  • Issue 3149150 - Added the  "File attachments" tab in Web Form builder for sites under the webMarketing plan
  • Issue 3128467 - Fixed a bug causing the delete products using Import feature to only delete  the first product from the import file
  • Issue 3148553 - Fixed a bug preventing users to login if the secure zone registration form included a redirect using PageID parameter

Business Catalyst V3 updates

  • New improved HTTP headers – to improve the Admin/ loading time (not just the first time loading) we are improving the HTTP headers to use more browser level caching and we're adding GZIP compression to all suitable files.
  • Fixed a problem causing web apps user interface to hang when adding a new web app field (get satisfaction forum report)
  • Fixed a bug in web app setting that was blocking users from deleting a web app field if it had web app items using it
  • Workflow approval process for pages and templates is now available in V3 UI (see get satisfaction report)
  • Fixed a modal dialog resize problem that was blocking the users view of the window action bar, usually displayed at the button of the screen (see get satisfaction forum post)
  • Fixed a bug blocking user from inserting an image from Image Properties screen (see get satisfaction forum post)
  • Fixed many small various issues with File Manager Alpha version (thanks for your feedback!)
  • Fixed bug causing " Reset to Default" to stop working for  Tasks filters
  • Added export button for Pages reports (Reports>Website Content>Pages) (see get satisfaction report)
  • Minor style updates for admin ribbon, breadcrumbs and links
  • Fixed a bug causing Save Draft to not update the web page status  to "working copy"
  • Fixed the Preview web page functionality for web page working copies
  • Fixed a bug in web forms causing the web form builder to generate multiple items when creating custom form fields of type List (see get satisfaction report)
  • Fixed a admin menu bug that was placing the user under CRM>Customer menu although the current page was CRM>Search
  • Added a confirmation message when a case is blacklisted & deleted
  • Updated ribbon behavior to use ellipsis for displaying long customer names to prevent layout degradation
  • Minor tweaks to the links in the admin ribbon
  • Updated the bounced email reports screen to fix scroll
  • Fixed a minor issue that was causing an incorrect list name to be displayed after an item (product, campaign, customer, etc) was deleted
  • Fixed a bug preventing the "Form Properties" window from closing when user pressed the "Back" button while the pop-up is displayed

  • New support/chat/forums in place– with this release,  we have updated the Business Catalyst partner support workflows and tools. This change aims to improve the way we support our partners by offering a better support workflow, new forums and chat based on the Adobe support infrastructure. In addition, following the release, partners will be able choose between letting business owners access the Business Catalyst documentation or access a custom documentation. Hi BC team,

 

I was wondering if there was a system or database update recently because as of the 1st of July, about the same time both yesterday and today, our website is taking about 10 times the amount of time to load a product page.

 

I've checked our analytics and there aren't a lot of people visiting the website so I dont think it's due to an overload of users.

 

Both times it has been in the afternoon, about GMT + 10hrs, 16:00

 

Is there a backup done at this time of day? Is this something we can check?
